Purpose of Position:
Our client is a respected Canadian Non-profit Research Foundation. They are currently looking for a National Director, Information Technology, to manage and lead the overall operation of information technology; to identify long-term foundation-wide information needs and to develop overall strategy for systems development, software/hardware acquisition and integration. The Director will also oversee and manage third party software development initiatives and application service providers to ensure smooth integration with in-house systems.
The ideal candidate will be a proven leader. This role requires someone who has excellent communication, people management, project management and vendor management skills.
Candidates will work in a beautiful and relaxed office environment.
Key Accountabilities:
· Lead development the information technology strategic plan, working with all functions across the organization. Develop implementation strategies to support approved strategic plan
· Responsible for analyzing current and emerging technologies. Identify and recommend opportunities for Foundation to capitalize on high return on investment or cost effective technology solutions to improve and/or transform business processes
· Analyze management needs regarding information management and expanded use of information technology in the foundation operations and processes. Collaborate with departments/chapters coordinate the selection, development and installation of appropriate applications
· Supervise Information Technology staff
· Develop long-range and short-range plans for the acquisition and installation of new equipment. Recommend the location, type and size of equipment. Evaluate existing systems and recommend upgrades as required. Manage the integration of current and future platforms including standardization and migration/integration of existing technology and in the design of improved information systems
· Act as project leader for specific initiatives, including process design, implementation, testing, piloting, and post-analysis
· Work with vendors and external developers to coordinate planning, implementation, integration, maintenance, upgrading of on-line system
· Manages activities related to systems development, applications support, network data/database management, records management, security, telecommunications and office automation support
· Directs the development and implementation of records and information management standards so as to ensure proper management and security of information and technology resources
· Responsible for ensuring security over information and systems including passwords, firewalls, data backup and disaster recovery plans
· Directs planning and development of policies and standards for acquisition, maintenance, security and disposition of information in both paper and electronic form
· Manage vendor selection and contract negotiation including hardware, software, network, ASP, outsourcing and third party development vendors
· Manage the overall information technology budget. Estimate future equipment needs for budgeting purposes
· Work closely with Human Resources to coordinate and oversee the training of department/chapter staff in new systems and software
· Manage the Foundations help desk
· Maintain professional contacts with other organizations, research institutions and equipment manufacturers concerning computer applications and equipment. Keep abreast of technological changes and innovations in the information systems field
· Designs processes for data processing and synchronization
· Troubleshoots and debugs issues related to data synchronization between Online Fundraising System, and offline pledge form processing systems
· Manages web server, and online fundraising application. Ensures stability, availability, and data integrity in Online Fundraising Application
Responsibility:
Direct responsibility for IT staff, budget and expenses
· Direct responsibility for providing IT expertise ensuring systems will support current and future organizational direction
· High consequence for error and impact if technology is not current and up to date and functioning at optimal performance level as this could negatively impact donors, participants and staff, resulting in a loss of money
· Decisions have few restrictions only referring up when outside of agreed upon budgets and plan
Qualifications:
· Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with a focus on information systems
· 5 years of experience managing an Information Technology department
· 5 years experience managing staff
· 5 years experience in eCommerce or online transaction processing
· 3 years experience managing software development projects
· 3 years experience in process engineering
