We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, resourceful and talented individual for the role of Director, Finance. This position is based in our Toronto, ON office and reports to the President and CEO.
KEY Accountabilities:
This individual is responsible for creating and implementing the financial strategy of the company and ensuring and maintaining the financial health of the organization. The Director - Finance is the leader of the finance team, responsible for financial reporting, financial forecasting, internal controls, financial risk management, and strategic leadership over the finance and accounting functions. The Director - Finance will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Brings Best Financial Practices into a well-funded start-up environment.
· Creates and maintains financial framework for the organization.
· Leads planning, budgeting and corporate financial performance reporting
· Oversees Contract Administration with Government partners
· Continuously monitors the company budget and revises forecasts in line with changing demands and company initiatives; ensures expenditures and variances are properly tracked and controlled, and participates in corrective solutions and strategies to ensure a balanced budget
· Communicates with the Executive Leadership, Board and the Finance/Audit Committee of the Board in a timely fashion on material financial and accounting matters
· Provides strategic financial leadership and organizational leadership for the preparation of the annual budget, and its ongoing management
· Represents company from a financial perspective and ensures company is fiscally accountable and transparent
· Establishes and maintains strong relationships with stakeholders in the community, service providers, consultants, financial institutions, and other partners
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A university degree and a professional accounting designation such as CA, CMA or CGA or equivalent
Experience: Seven (7) to nine (9) years experience in progressively responsible related accounting positions including 5 to 7 years in a management role
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, best practices, computer-based accounting and legislation affecting not-for-profit health care organizations
Knowledge of healthcare financials, funding and reporting criteria
Thorough knowledge of budgeting and auditing procedures and principles
Knowledge of internal control policies and procedures
Excellent analytical skills to evaluate complex financial systems, formulate long-range fiscal planning and prepare informative financial reports
Proficiency with software programs in the Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of business management principles, strategic planning, leadership techniques and general human resources management practices
Systems thinking and approach in order to achieve desired results
Strong planning, organizational and writing skills
Ability to prioritize and make sound decisions under pressure and within tight deadlines
Strong communication skills; demonstrated leadership skills
Team-player
Ability to work independently.
Experience in building a Finance team from the ground-up an asset
